What this service involves

Replace a light-duty 50A receptacle with a suitable Hubbell/Bryant-type device.

Typical scope and limits: Existing wiring and protection must be suitable. New GFCI breaker is additional if needed.

Who usually needs it

Homeowners adding EV charging or moving to electric equipment like heat pumps and induction cooking.

Estimated pricing

$225–$450 per receptacle

Priced per receptacle. This is a planning range, not a quote.

Project ranges include labor and standard installation materials unless a listing says otherwise. Hourly rates are labor only, and equipment you supply (such as chargers, fixtures or fans) is not included. Permit fees and sales tax are additional. Estimates are free, including on-site visits.

Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.

What an electrician evaluates first

  • Load calculation and available capacity
  • Charger or equipment requirements
  • Distance and route
  • Whether load management or a panel change is needed

Typical work sequence

  1. Confirm equipment and location
  2. Check capacity
  3. Install circuit and equipment
  4. Set charging limits where applicable
  5. Inspection

Access and disruption

Garage installations are often surface-mounted; finished walls can add routing work.

Permits and inspection

New circuits, equipment changes and most wiring alterations normally need an electrical permit and inspection. In Washington, Labor & Industries issues electrical permits except in cities that run their own electrical program, so the permitting authority depends on the property address rather than the mailing city. True confirms the correct authority before work starts. Permit fees are additional to the estimate.

Helpful, safe photos

The parking location, the closed panel and the charger or equipment model. Only photograph what is safely visible — never remove electrical covers.

Questions

Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?

Not always. A load calculation shows whether capacity exists, and load management can sometimes avoid an upgrade.

Do utility rebates apply?

Programs change. Check with your utility; True can provide installation details for an application.
