Canless LED recessed lighting installation

Canless wafer lights provide low-profile ceiling lighting. Layout, fixture rating and compatible controls matter as much as the number of lights.

When this work makes sense

  • A room needing more even illumination
  • Low-profile lights instead of hanging fixtures
  • A coordinated multi-light room project

The electrical work

Cut an opening, wire and install a standard integrated LED wafer light.

Typical accessible ceiling and existing suitable circuit. Dimmer/new circuit extra. Single-light minimum applies.

Estimated pricing

$157.50–$315 per light in 4+ light project

Project ranges include labor and standard installation materials unless a listing says otherwise. Hourly rates are labor only, and equipment you supply (such as chargers, fixtures or fans) is not included. Permit fees and sales tax are additional. Estimates are free, including on-site visits.

Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.

What affects the scope and cost

  • Number of lights and ceiling access
  • Fixture location and insulation rating
  • Dimming and circuit changes

A common question

Is the per-light price valid for one light?

The per-light rate applies to projects of four or more lights. Single-light jobs are quoted individually, and dimmers or new circuits are priced separately.
