Estimated pricing
- Existing fan replacement
- $300–$600 per fan
- New-location installation
- $600–$1,100 per fan
Replacing an existing fan typically costs $300–$600, including connection to suitable existing ducting. Installing a fan in a new location typically costs $600–$1,100. Labor and materials are included; permit fees and sales tax are additional. Any additional ductwork needs will be discussed before installation.
New or additional ductwork is not included in either standard range. Any duct changes or additional ductwork must be discussed and agreed upon before installation. Exterior vent caps, roof penetrations, duct replacement and new duct runs are not included work.
Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.
Room ventilation is not dryer venting
A clothes dryer must exhaust through its own dedicated vent according to the dryer manufacturer’s instructions. A room exhaust fan does not replace that vent and must not be connected to it.
If the room is hot and humid while the dryer runs, a crushed, disconnected or clogged dryer vent may be the cause. That is worth checking before adding room ventilation.
When a laundry fan helps
- Musty smells or condensation in a small laundry room
- Laundry rooms without a window
- Air-drying clothes indoors
- Laundry in a basement, garage corner or interior closet
Controls and selection
Timer and humidity-sensing controls suit laundry rooms where the fan should run during and after a load. Quiet fans matter when the laundry room is near living space.
Sizing depends on room volume and the duct path. The manufacturer’s CFM and sone ratings help compare models.
Wiring and access
A new laundry fan needs a power source, a control location and a duct route. Ceiling access above the room makes installation simpler.
Opening and patching ceilings may be needed. Drywall patching, texture and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.
