Residential electrical services

Whole-home surge protection

A compatible panel-mounted surge protective device helps reduce exposure to transient voltage; it is not a guarantee against every electrical event.

When this work makes sense

  • Protecting household electronics
  • Adding sensitive appliance equipment
  • Reviewing protection during panel work

The electrical work

Install a panel-mounted surge protective device to reduce transient voltage exposure.

Standard residential SPD, breaker if needed and short connections included.

Estimated pricing

$315–$720 per device

Project ranges include labor and standard installation materials unless a listing says otherwise. Hourly rates are labor only, and equipment you supply (such as chargers, fixtures or fans) is not included. Permit fees and sales tax are additional. Estimates are free, including on-site visits.

Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.

What affects the scope and cost

  • Panel compatibility and device selection
  • Connection location and available space
  • Existing grounding and bonding

A common question

Is whole-home protection the same as a power strip?

No. A panel device and a plug-in protective device work at different locations. Equipment selection and the installed grounding arrangement are important to the overall approach.
