Residential electrical services

Detached shed & workshop subpanel

A detached structure needs a planned feeder and local distribution arrangement suited to the tools, lighting and equipment you intend to use.

When this work makes sense

  • A shed becoming a workspace
  • Workshop equipment needing permanent power
  • Replacing an improvised temporary supply

The electrical work

Feed a detached building and install its subpanel and required grounding components.

Approximately 50–75 ft feeder in an available route. Trench and branch wiring excluded.

Estimated pricing

$2,250–$4,950 per project

Project ranges include labor and standard installation materials unless a listing says otherwise. Hourly rates are labor only, and equipment you supply (such as chargers, fixtures or fans) is not included. Permit fees and sales tax are additional. Estimates are free, including on-site visits.

Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.

What affects the scope and cost

  • Distance between buildings
  • Available underground route
  • Loads and grounding arrangements

A common question

Does a subpanel price include the trench?

The feeder and subpanel range assumes an available route and does not include trenching or branch wiring. The shed photograph shows a separate trenching stage, which is not part of that price.
