When this work makes sense
- Half the house losing power
- Several lights unexpectedly brightening or dimming
- An intermittent outage without an obvious appliance trigger
The electrical work
Test accessible equipment and circuits to distinguish branch, service and utility-side problems.
Diagnosis only. Utility-owned repairs and major service equipment replacement excluded.
Estimated pricing
$180 per hour (troubleshooting labor)
Project ranges include labor and standard installation materials unless a listing says otherwise. Hourly rates are labor only, and equipment you supply (such as chargers, fixtures or fans) is not included. Permit fees and sales tax are additional. Estimates are free, including on-site visits.
Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.
What affects the scope and cost
- Whether the fault is utility- or customer-owned
- Intermittent versus reproducible symptoms
- Safe access and condition of service equipment
A common question
Should I wait for a website reply if there is smoke or arcing?
No. Move away from danger and call 911 for an immediate emergency. For suspected utility outages, also contact the utility. The website is not emergency dispatch.
