Residential electrical services

Knob-and-tube replacement · attic & crawlspace

Replacing an accessible active knob-and-tube circuit addresses that circuit’s wiring and connections; it does not automatically mean rewiring the entire house.

When this work makes sense

  • Active older circuits in accessible areas
  • A remodel affecting legacy wiring
  • An assessment identifying replacement needs

The electrical work

Replace one accessible old branch circuit with grounded cable and modern terminations.

Approximately 4–8 served points and 50–100 ft. Extensive shared circuits may need a larger scope.

Estimated pricing

$1,080–$2,250 per circuit

Project ranges include labor and standard installation materials unless a listing says otherwise. Hourly rates are labor only, and equipment you supply (such as chargers, fixtures or fans) is not included. Permit fees and sales tax are additional. Estimates are free, including on-site visits.

Electrical work may require openings in walls or ceilings. Drywall patching, texture, and painting are not included and must be arranged with others.

What affects the scope and cost

  • Served points and shared circuits
  • Attic or crawlspace access
  • Transition into finished rooms

A common question

Can all knob-and-tube be assessed from the attic?

No. Visible sections may continue into concealed rooms or shared circuits. Tracing establishes what is active and how much replacement is needed.
